About

FAR–NEAR Studio Hours is an artist-run community space located in Chinatown, New York City, designed for the presentation, creation and connection of Asian artists across disciplines.

Programming

Asian Women Giving Circle has graciously provided us a small grant for programming in 2024, concentrating on female and gender-expansive artists’ work and visibility. The program will include talks, exhibitions, film screenings and small gatherings, providing an informal and creative outlet to build relationships and link generations. Please follow announcements on our social media for upcoming events.

Archive & Shop

All volumes of FAR–NEAR and coinciding projects (community prints and zines, t-shirts, fundraiser bags, etc.) will be available to view and purchase at Studio Hours.

In addition, our founder Lulu Yao Gioiello has made her personal archive of Asian publications available as a resource for visitors to read, browse, study and discuss.

Rentals & Pitches

If you are interested in getting involved, hosting a talk, screening, photo/video shoot or showroom, or would like to pitch us an idea for an exhibition or pop-up, please reach out to info@far-near.media with the subject: FAR–NEAR Studio Hours – Pitch.

Please note we prioritize female and gender-expansive artists, independent projects and intimate, respectful and culturally tuned sponsored events. As we are primarily self-funded and otherwise donation-based and limited in resources, we will charge a sliding scale fee and require a security deposit for use of the space.

Hours

We are open by appointment only, typically on fridays and saturdays, unless an event is taking place. Please contact info@far-near.media to visit!

Financial Disclosure

We are a self-funded platform operating without advertising or external investments. Our founder commits to a personal financial deficit each year with our small team working diligently outside of their day jobs to deliver the highest quality annually-printed books, community space, online editorials, anti-racism newsletters, charitable fundraisers, music playlists and social media to our community.

You can support us by purchasing our books, subscribing to our book club and volunteering or contributing tax-exempt donations via our fiscal sponsor The Field. We also accept Venmo at @far-near (not tax exempt). We appreciate your consideration and contribution!
